2018 Youth Day Celebrations @ SST on 29 June 2018

‘Dress and Pledge’ and Inter-house Recycled Wearable Art Challenge
Information for Students
Introduction
Youth Day is a national holiday dedicated to the youth. In Singapore, we celebrate youth day on the first Sunday of July every year.
This year, we are commemorating Youth Day in SST on 29 June 2018 (Friday).

Dress and Pledge
This coming Youth Day (This Friday 29th June 2018), we invite all students to be involved in ‘Dress and Pledge’.

Dress
You are strongly encouraged to be creative in your use of recycled materials in your outfit.
For the brave and bold, we expect you to stretch your imagination and come in outfits that
resemble that of a superhero or a famous character.
If you do not have a full costume, you may come in self-made accessories like a mask or hat.
You can also assemble an outfit using recycled materials that you can find around you.
For the more modest, just come in the clothes you would normally wear when on an outing.
Attire Guidelines
Attire should still adhere to the fundamental philosophy of SST Student Code of Conduct and
uphold the dignity of the SST student.
Hence, revealing clothes and clothes with objectionable text/prints should not be worn.
Students are required to wear covered shoes.
Students who do not wish to come in home clothes or costumes can choose to come in full school uniform.
Please remember that the usual rules of decency and apply in the choice of your outfit.
Please note that for S&W lessons, you will have to change into appropriate S&W attire.

Pledge
While we have fun and laughter on Youth Day, we also remember those who are less fortunate.
Hence, it is also a day in which we pledge a portion of our pocket money for charity.
Do remember to bring along the money which you would like to contribute to the Youth Day appeal.
This year the amount collected for the Youth Day appeal will be donated to the Community Chest.
2018 Inter-House Recycled Wearable Art Challenge

We will also run the 2018 Inter-House Recycled Wearable Art Challenge on the same day during Assembly.

Requirements:
The wearable art item can be part or whole outfit or an accessory to an outfit
e.g. a shirt  or a hat or bag to match an outfit
The materials should be 100% recycled (with the exception of binding elements
e.g. threads, sticky tape, staples, glue, cable ties).
If you use blue tack or strings, please limit yourself to pre-used blue tack or strings
instead of buying new ones.
For clarity, using new coloured paper, post-it note pads, masking tape,
cardboard/vanguard sheets, glitter, plastic sheets or anything else that is new is NOT recycling.
Colour markers, spray paint, acrylic paint, buttons, feathers, rings and other embellishments
are all allowed but please do not buy new ones.
Each house is given an opportunity to make a 1 to 2-minute presentation
based on the following judging criteria:

Judging Criteria
How this piece is conceptualised
How recycled materials are used
How wearable the item is
How pleasing it is to the eye

Extra Bonus!
We are also looking out for 3 to 5 best student outfits from the audience on that day.
If you have been spotted by our judges, you will have a chance to earn extra points for your house! :)

Be ready to support your houses with the loudest of cheers! :)
