Application for The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund 2019



Dear Students (Sec 1 to Sec 3),

We are pleased to inform you that application for The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF) is open from now till 21 August 2018. This is for students who are continuing with their studies in SST for next year (2019).

The STSPMF is a community project initiated by The Straits Times, to provide pocket money to school-going children from low-income families. The children can use this money for school-related expenses such as a recess meal or their bus fares.

Eligibility Criteria
Students have to meet the following criteria:
  • Student is a Singapore Citizen (SC) or Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR); and
  • Family is living in a 4-room HDB flat or smaller; and
  • Family has a Gross per capita income (PCI) of $625/ month or less; and
  • Student is receiving full-time formal education at a mainstream primary/secondary school/Junior College/ Centralised Institute (including specialised independent school); and
  • Is not concurrently receiving school pocket money or other similar monthly school pocket money schemes. Students receiving the MOE Independent School Bursary may apply. 
  • Has not been a STSPMF beneficiary for 24 months for the whole schooling years of primary and secondary school and 48 months for post-secondary school. 
Note
For current beneficiaries who wish to apply for another year of school pocket money fund assistance, income documents are required to be submitted together with section six of the application form – Declaration form for further STSPMF assistance (applications for further STSPMF assistance through schools). The parent/legal guardian will also declare on the form if there are any changes as compared to their previous applications.

Benefits
Students supported by the STSPMF will be able to receive $95 per month (secondary school students) for a maximum of 24 months (starting Jan 2019 onwards).

Application Procedures and Submission
Students who meet the eligibility criteria may apply. Application forms are available from the SST General Office. You may also download the application form HERE. Completed application forms, together with the relevant supporting documents, must be submitted to the SST General Office by 21 August 2018. Successful applicants will be notified through the school in Jan 2019.

CDAC - SFCCA Bursary 2019 (for Sec 1 - 3 Students)

Dear Students (Sec 1 - Sec 3),

We are pleased to inform you that the CDAC - SFCCA Bursary 2019 is open for application from now till 31 August 2018.  The objective of the bursary is to help needy students cope with schooling expenses, including transport and meals.  

The eligibility criteria and benefits are as follows:

Eligibility Criteria
(a) Race/Citizenship:  Chinese students who are Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents
(b) Household Income:   Gross monthly household income less than or equal to $1,900 or monthly per capita income less than or equal to $650.
(c) Conduct:  Excellent, Very Good or Good
(d) Attendance:  At least 90% unless with valid reasons
(e) Others:  Not receiving The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and other scholarship or bursary. (Those receiving MOE Edusave Merit Scholarships or ISB may apply.)
Note: Students graduating in 2018 will not be eligible to apply.  

Benefits
Successful applicant will be notified of the application outcome and receive a bursary quantum of $450 via Interbank GIRO from January 2019 onwards.  CDAC will grant 90% fee subsidy for the bursary recipients to participate in learning programmes/courses at CDAC Centres. 

Application Procedures and Submission
Students who qualify to apply for this bursary may collect the application forms from the SST General Office or download the application forms here.  Students from the same family are only required to complete 1 set of the form.  Completed application together with the required supporting documents must be mailed out to the CDAC Secretariat before the closing date (31 August 2018).

Staff Appreciation Week(SAW) 2018

Dear Students,

The Peer Support Board is back with the Staff Appreciation Week(SAW) 2018 and this year’s theme is "Appreciating the Little Things".

SAW is a platform through which the SST community comes together as one to express our gratitude for the staff of the school. As with tradition, one of the items during SAW will be a Concert on 30th August 2018 and we seek your active support.
If you are interested in performing during the Concert, please do fill out THIS FORM and include a video of your performance of not longer than 5 minutes. Do take note of the purpose behind why and story behind your performance which will be taken into consideration during the selection process.

We will be holding E-Auditions from 20th July till 10th August 2018.

After the E-Auditions end on 10th August, the selected performers will be informed via email on 13th August.

If you are selected, you will be interviewed and we look forward to work together with you during the concert rehearsals.

Extension of Concessionary Travel for All Sec 4 Students

Dear Sec 4 Students,    

Please note that the concessionary travel for all Secondary 4 students who are taking the GCE "O" Level examinations in 2018 will expire on 31 Dec 2018
 
Please present your School Smart Card (SSC) at any Transit Link (TL) Ticket Office, Concession Card Replacement Office (CCRO), Passenger Service Centre (PSC), Add Value Machine (AVM) or the General Ticketing Machine (GTM) to extend the concession validity of your SSCs to continue enjoying concessionary travel till 31 Jan 2019.
 
All students can start to activate the extension with effect from 16 Jul 2018 and the last day for extension of concessionary travel is 16 Sep 2018.  Please call Transit Link (TL) - Hotline at 1800-2255 663 for assistance if you encounter problem extending the concession validity. TL's Hotline Operating hours are from  8am - 6pm daily  and they are closed on Public Holidays.
 
Students who are paying their fare charges through GIRO or Auto Credit Card are also required to extend the concession validity of their SSCs at any of the machines/offices mentioned at para 2 above.

Ministry of Education (MOE) Quality of School Experience (QSE) Survey for Sec 4 Students

Dear Secondary 4 Students,

Please be informed that you will be required to participate in the above questionnaire survey on 23 July 2018, Monday.  The questionnaire survey is to assess the extent to which students find their school experience positive and enriching.  

Date:      23 July 2018, Monday
Time:      1.40 - 2.40 pm
Venue:    Auditorium (A-04-01)

Please note the following for the survey:
  • Attendance is compulsory for all (except for students who are scheduled for GCE O Level MTL Oral on 23 July).  
  • Students who are unable to attend the survey on 23 July 2018 (including students who are scheduled for GCE O Level MTL Oral on 23 July) will be scheduled to take the survey on : 
25 July 2018, Wed at 7.40 am at the LT (Room C-03-11)   
  • Please bring your own Learning Devices (Macbooks) on 23 July as the survey will be administered on-line.  Students will NOT be allowed to do the survey using mobile phones or tablets.
  • Students are required to be seated by class during the survey, and with an empty seat in-between each student.  
  • Individual log-in ID and password will be distributed on the day of the survey.   
We are expecting MOE personnel to be present as observers during the survey.  As such, we seek your kind co-operation to remain orderly and follow all instructions carefully during the conduct of the survey.

Phase 2 Student Leaders Selection


Dear Sec 2 students,

The SST Student Leadership Programme provides leadership opportunities and experiences in order to develop our students' leadership competencies and values. At the end of each year, we select Sec 1 students to join the Junior Student Council and the Junior Peer Support Board. This continues to be the main recruitment point into the Student Council and Peer Support Board.
From this year on, we will be opening up applications for Phase 2 of recruitment. This is strictly for Sec 2 students only. Applications will be self-nomination in nature and deserving candidates must display outstanding leadership qualities, be exemplary in performance and moral character.

We have exciting activities planned for you! This is the schedule of events. 


1) Starting Friday 6th July, please note the various venues for Assembly at 12pm.

  • Sec 1 Interactive Forum Theatre,‘Let’s Face it!’ (By HPB) at Multipurpose Hall


2) For the Interhouse Games, House points are given for participation for the following events. Sign-ups are done via your House Captains.
  • Experience & Sweat - 3 - 6.30pm on Mondays
    • 9 Jul - Water Soccer
    • 16 Jul - Laser Tag
    • 23 Jul - Bubble Bump
  • Titan Challenge 4 - 6.30pm on 10th Tuesday & 12th Jul Thursday

3) InterClass Games are held during recess organised by SW representatives.
