2019 S1 Parents: (Digital Citizenship) Parents Engagement
Dear Parents of 2019 S1 Students
This is an induction on how students would use computers for learning in SST. We will touch on the guidelines on students' use of learning devices in the school. We will also be sharing with parents information related to Digital Citizenship, which we hope that it will better prepare parents to support their children in the transition from primary to secondary school, in particular learning in the 1-to-1 ICT-enabled environment.
Parents are strongly encouraged to attend the session with your child.

- Attire worn must be clean and neatly pressed with no holes, tears or frayed areas.
- Kindly also replace your uniform if they are too small and/or short or they have become too faded.
- Male Students
- Hair must be short and neatly combed.
- Clean-shaven (not allowed to keep facial hair such as beards, long side-burns or moustaches).
- Must tuck in their polo t-shirt and wear a belt if necessary.
- Belts (if worn) must be black in colour and must be plain without fancy patterns. Buckles must only have simple designs and must not be too big.
- Female Students
- Hair that is shoulder length or longer must be tied up.
- Simple hair accessories such as hand bands, hair clips may be worn.
- Long fringe should be clipped up.
- Fingernails must be kept clean, short and unvarnished.

School Gates Opening Hours from 2019 Onwards
Dear Students,
Please note the revised School Gates Opening Hours from 2019 onwards.
The school gates will open from 6:30 a.m instead of 6:00 a.m. Details are as follows:
Monday to Friday
- Gate B, in front of Block A General Office, will be open to pedestrians and vehicles from 6:30 a.m to 7:00 a.m. After 7.00 a.m, only pedestrians will be allowed through the gate until 6.30 p.m. when it closes.
- Gate A, next to linkway drop-off point, will be open to pedestrians and vehicles from 7.00 a.m to 7.00 p.m.
- Gate C, for students taking public transport, will be open from:
Tuesday - Friday: 7.00 a.m. to 8.00 a.m.
Saturday
- Gate B, in front of Block A General Office, will be open to pedestrians and vehicles from 6:30 a.m to 3.00 p.m.
2019 S2 to S4: Class Pages in GoogleSite
Dear Students
With effective from 2019, the 'class blogs' will be integrated into the GoogleSite as "Class Pages".
In other words, by logging into the cohort GoogleSite (with your SST email account), you would be able to access the cohort announcements as well as class announcements.
This change is based on a review on the use and developments of the various technology platforms we are currently using. We hope that this will create greater convenience for you to access information in a more organised and timely manner.
On the other hand, general information and announcements for the student community will still be made via the Students Blog. Do follow this blog for daily announcements.

2019 Secondary 1 Students Using Primary School's School Smart Card
Dear 2019 Secondary 1 Students,
Welcome to SST!
Please be informed that you will be issued with a new Secondary level School Smart Card (SSC) in due course. We will inform you when the new Smart Card is available for collection.
While waiting for the Secondary level SSC to be ready, you may continue to use your Primary level SSC for concessionary travel till end April 2019. You can still purchase the Bus Concession Pass (BCP) using your Primary level SSCs but you would need to purchase the BCP for Secondary School students.

Updated Volunteering Opportunities (Environment Theme)

The ACE@SST: Volunteering Opportunities spreadsheet is updated with volunteering opportunities related to the environment theme. (This spreadsheet can be found under Student Services at the SST Student Blog.)
If you wish to participate in these volunteering opportunities related to the environment theme, please contact Ms Rachel Yau at rachel_yau@sst.edu.sg.
After you complete the service, please obtain an official document from the external organisation stating your name and the hours you volunteered. This document must be signed by the personnel in charge or stamped with the official logo of the organisation. Flag Day for Lions Befrienders

Invitation to Participate in the 2018 Australian Informatics Olympiad
Dear students,
This is an invitation to participate in the 2018 Australian Informatics Olympiad (AIO).
The AIO is a 3-hour competition in which students must write computer programs to solve logic problems.
The AIO is open to all secondary students. There are two papers:
- Junior (Sec 1-2)
- Intermediate (Sec 3-4)
Within each paper are four tasks to test the students' skills using C, C++, C#, Pascal, Java, PHP or Python.
Students only need to know one of these languages in order to compete. Those new to programming may find Python the easiest of these languages to learn.
The AIO will be held in SST on Thursday 23 August 2018. Students' solutions are submitted online.
Please register by Monday 13 Aug 2018, 5 pm.

Application for The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund 2019
Dear Students (Sec 1 to Sec 3),
We are pleased to inform you that application for The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF) is open from now till 21 August 2018. This is for students who are continuing with their studies in SST for next year (2019).
The STSPMF is a community project initiated by The Straits Times, to provide pocket money to school-going children from low-income families. The children can use this money for school-related expenses such as a recess meal or their bus fares.
Eligibility Criteria
Students have to meet the following criteria:
- Student is a Singapore Citizen (SC) or Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR); and
- Family is living in a 4-room HDB flat or smaller; and
- Family has a Gross per capita income (PCI) of $625/ month or less; and
- Student is receiving full-time formal education at a mainstream primary/secondary school/Junior College/ Centralised Institute (including specialised independent school); and
- Is not concurrently receiving school pocket money or other similar monthly school pocket money schemes. Students receiving the MOE Independent School Bursary may apply.
- Has not been a STSPMF beneficiary for 24 months for the whole schooling years of primary and secondary school and 48 months for post-secondary school.
Note
For current beneficiaries who wish to apply for another year of school pocket money fund assistance, income documents are required to be submitted together with section six of the application form – Declaration form for further STSPMF assistance (applications for further STSPMF assistance through schools). The parent/legal guardian will also declare on the form if there are any changes as compared to their previous applications.
Benefits
Students supported by the STSPMF will be able to receive $95 per month (secondary school students) for a maximum of 24 months (starting Jan 2019 onwards).

We are pleased to inform you that the CDAC - SFCCA Bursary 2019 is open for application from now till 31 August 2018. The objective of the bursary is to help needy students cope with schooling expenses, including transport and meals.

Staff Appreciation Week(SAW) 2018
Dear Students,
The Peer Support Board is back with the Staff Appreciation Week(SAW) 2018 and this year’s theme is "Appreciating the Little Things".
SAW is a platform through which the SST community comes together as one to express our gratitude for the staff of the school. As with tradition, one of the items during SAW will be a Concert on 30th August 2018 and we seek your active support.
If you are interested in performing during the Concert, please do fill out THIS FORM and include a video of your performance of not longer than 5 minutes. Do take note of the purpose behind why and story behind your performance which will be taken into consideration during the selection process.
We will be holding E-Auditions from 20th July till 10th August 2018.
After the E-Auditions end on 10th August, the selected performers will be informed via email on 13th August.
If you are selected, you will be interviewed and we look forward to work together with you during the concert rehearsals.
