[S3 and S4] Student-Initiated Service Learning Project (CCA/Committee Group-Sec 3&4)

 Dear Secondary 3 and 4 students,


Amidst the preparation and execution of your respective classes’ service learning projects, this is a gentle reminder for those who are interested in initiating separate self-initiated projects with peers from your CCA or Committee. If you would like to initiate projects, please refer to the instructions and timeline in this document.



Here are some key dates for ease of reference:



Between Term 1 to 3 (at least 6 weeks before the service day) – 


  • Form a committee of maximum 5 students.

  • Submit a draft proposal (Stage 1 and Stage 2A of the Student-Initiated Service Learning Project Form) to your CCA/Committee teacher-in-charge and book a consultation with him/her (who will be mentoring you and your team).

  • Your CCA/Committee teacher-in-charge will email to Mr Elson Loh (ACE teacher) your draft proposal. If approved, your teacher-in-charge will guide you in completing the final and completed proposal (Stage 1, Stage 2A and Stage 2B)

  • Your CCA/Committee teacher-in-charge will email to Mr Elson Loh (ACE teacher) your final and completed proposal. Teacher-in-charge will receive the result of proposal submitted from Mr Elson Loh, i.e. whether the project is approved. 

  • After the Project is approved, the group embarks on planning and implementation of the student-initiated project under supervision by assigned teacher mentor from CCA/Committee.


By 30 June 2023 - Service of student-initiated project to be completed

[S3 & S4] See Think Wonder Challenge!

Dear Sec 3 and Sec 4 students,

You are invited to join the See Think Wonder Challenge!

This is the world's first Challenge centered around Harvard Thinking Routines, where you will develop the ability and the inclination to think and articulate your thoughts.

It is a free, sequential Challenge to build up a good habit to
  1. Look closely
  2. Make evidence-based interpretations
  3. Innovate with reasons
 
You will bring these skills to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposals to IKEA and 7-ELEVEN and directly present the ideas to them. Those who advance to the Finals will also be sponsored to fly to Taiwan for the final presentation.

For Round 1 to Semi-Final, the Challenge will be hosted online so anyone (aged 15-19) can join.

In Round 1, you will observe and compare the pictures to see the progress over the past century and think about the human needs behind the progress.

Lunar New Year Celebrations - Dismissal Time and General Office Closure

The school will be celebrating Lunar New Year on 20 January 2023, Friday.   Students will be dismissed around 10.15 a.m. after the celebrations. The General Office will be closed from 12.00 pm onwards and School gates will be locked at 1.00 pm.

The School will be closed from 21 January 2023, Saturday to 24 January 2023, Tuesday. School will resume on 25 January 2023, Wednesday.  

We take this opportunity to wish all of you a Happy Lunar New Year!

Orator's Trophy Competition organised by ACJC

The annual ORATOR’S TROPHY organised by ACJC is back!

For those who are interested, please read the following details:

1. Each participant is to submit two recordings; one topic for Preliminary Round 1 AND one topic for Preliminary Round 2.

2. Recordings must be in full body and participants must be in school uniform.

3. Recordings should be in mp4 format.

4. Label recordings as Class_Name_RoundX_Y [X refers to Preliminary Round Number, Y refers to Question Number. Refer to Page 5 of the Invitation Letter.]

Shell NXplorers Journey 2023 is now open for registration!

NXplorers is organised by Science Centre Singapore and Shell Singapore. It is a platform for youths to develop sustainable solutions to food, water and energy challenges. Through the process, students learn systems thinking, scenario planning, and develop change management skills – all highly relevant skill sets that inspire and equip students to be positive agents of change. Teams with innovative solutions stand a chance to receive attractive cash prizes.


Note: NXplorers Workshop – All participating teams must attend a compulsory workshop(s) where they will be guided through the ideation process for the challenge. Do make sure that you are able to commit to the dates below before you sign up.

All participants are required to attend the weekly training on Monday 3 - 4.30 pm with the I&E TDP team.

International Mathematics Contest 2023

 SST Students are invited to take part in the 2023 International Math Contest.

The contest will be held online from 6 February to 19 February 2023. It is a 30-min online paper.

The contest is free of charge (there is another option with payment, but students do not need to choose that)

The official website is as follows:

Students will need their parents/guardians to set up an account for them on the website. Students are to type their full names for registration.

In the field “Local Day School Grade”, Grades 7, 8, 9, 10 refers to Secondary 1, 2, 3, 4 respectively.

In the field, “After School Math Program”, fill in “Other Math Program”.

In the field, “Day School”, fill in “School of Science and Technology”.

On the day of the contest: 

Students are to choose the appropriate papers and to work on them without external help. Submit their answers accordingly.

Once their parents have received the details of the results via e-mail (e-certificate and ranking) around a week later, students are to take a screenshot of the results. Rename the screenshot to the class, index number and the name of the student (e.g. S2-09 08 Ang Tze Kiat) and deposit them in this 
Google FormThis form will be closed on 28 February 2023 (Tuesday) 5 p.m. Late entries will be not entertained.

An e-mail will be sent to the students acknowledging their entry. The contest will be registered as an enrichment activity in the CCA records of the respective student only when the screenshot has clearly stated the full name of the student.

[S1] SST Email Account - What you need to do

Dear S1 students

You will be receiving the login information of your SST email account through your form teachers by this Wednesday (11 Jan 2023). 

When you received your email login information (i.e. a slip of paper), 

  • Step 1: Go to gmail.com
  • Step 2: Enter your entire email address, e.g. full_name@s2023.ssts.edu.sg and the computer-generated password
  • Step 3: You will be prompted to change the password. Follow the instructions and requirements in the website to complete the process. 
Should you need assistance, please approach the ICT HelpDesk (beside the cafe).
Complete this login process latest by 13 January 2023.

[S1] 2023 CCA Try-Out Schedule & Important CCA Dates

Dear S1s,

As shared during the CCA briefing on Friday, these are the critical dates to take note of for your CCA selection: 

11 Jan - 3 Feb: CCA Try-out
3 Feb - 10 Feb: Sec 1 CCA Option Exercise
24 Feb: Sec 1 CCA Allocation
1 Mar: Sec 1 CCA commences

Please refer to the CCA Try-out Schedule to find the sessions you are allocated for the respective CCA. 

You are strongly encouraged to attend at least 6 different CCA Try-Out sessions.

Release of 2022 GCE O-Level Examination Results

 This announcement is for all 2022 Secondary 4 students.

 

2022 GCE O-Level Examination Results will be released on Thursday, 12 January 2023 at 2:00 p.m.

 

Reporting time & items to bring

  • All students are to be seated at the Multi-purpose Hall (MPH) by 1.30 p.m. 

  • If you should turn up prior to 1.30 p.m., please stay at the canteen and do not wander around campus as lessons are in progress. 

  • Please bring along your NRIC/Passport/Birth Certificate/Student Pass for identification purposes. Writing materials are optional. 

Dress code & grooming

  • All students must be properly attired in FULL SST uniform.

  • Your grooming (i.e. hair colour, length, appearance) must adhere to the school’s standards. 

  • Students who do not meet the attire and grooming rules will be directed to the Visitor's Center where they will obtain their results at that venue at a later timing. 

For students arriving later than 3.00 p.m. but before 5.30 p.m.

  • Students are to collect their result slip ((Form A1) from the General Office.

  • Students are required to present their NRIC/Passport/Birth Certificate/Student Pass to the staff member at the General Office for verification.

For students who are unable to collect their result slips on 12 January 2023

  • Students may view their results online via the SEAB Candidates Portal at  https://myexams.seab.gov.sg  from 2.45 p.m. on 12 January 2023. The system will be accessible from 12 to 26 January 2023. School candidates who are eligible for SingPass can use their SingPass account to access SEAB’s online results release system. Students can access the results release system using the SEAB-issued PIN sent to their email addresses which their schools had provided to SEAB.

  • Students can also appoint a proxy to collect the physical copy of their result slip (Form A1) on their behalf.

  • Proxy may collect the result slip (Form A1) from the General Office from 12 January, 3.00 p.m. onwards. Proxy is required to present the following documents to the staff member at the General Office before he/she is able to collect the result slip.

  SST Authorisation Letter duly completed

  Student’s NRIC/Passport/Birth Certificate/Student Pass

  Proxy’s original NRIC

  • Result slip (Form A1) must be collected from the General Office latest by Friday, 13 January 2023, 5.00 p.m.

  • Students are to contact 65717-200 (during office hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) for assistance if they are unable to appoint a proxy or if they have not received their password for SEAB’s results release system.
