[UPDATED] [S2, S3] Invitation to Participate: Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) Robotics Challenge
Are you ready to take your technical skills from the school to the open sea? In conjunction with RobotX 2026, we are looking for SST’s sharpest minds to take on the RSN Robotics Challenge.
This isn't just a competition; it’s a high-stakes engineering mission where you will build, program, and deploy Unmanned Surface Vessels (USV) and Underwater ROVs.
The objectives of the RSN Robotics Challenge are:
- to foster critical thinking and scientific inquiry by applying Physics and Engineering principles to solve complex, real-world maritime robotics challenges.
- to identify top-tier students in Computing and Robotics who demonstrate the technical excellence and "engineering grit" required to compete at an international level.
Mission Timeline
August 2026: Kick-off with a Weekend Hackathon. Get hands-on guidance on kit assembly, technical briefings, and learn the secret to winning the judging criteria. (Date TBC)
November 2026: The Final Deployment. Put your machines to the test in a real-world maritime environment. (Early Nov, date TBC)
Due to the complexity of the naval kits, only 16 students will be selected this year. Slots are limited and will be based on further shortlisting in Term 3. If you wish to participate in this challenge, kindly sign up here.

Key Objectives
STEM Inquiry: Foster critical thinking by applying Physics and Engineering to solve complex maritime robotics problems.
Talent Identification: Identify top-tier students in Computing and Robotics ready for international-level competition.
Programme & Kits
Teams will build and operate a dual-system fleet: an Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) and an Underwater Vehicle (UUV). All robotics kits and materials are provided during the guided workshop—no prior equipment is needed.
Broad Timeline
15 May: Deadline for Team Detail Submissions.
1 & 2 Aug (Tentative): Guided Build Workshop (Kit assembly & briefing).
11 – 13 Nov (Tentative): Final Mission Deployment & Competition.

Dear Sec 2 SSTudent,
Annually, the North West Community Development Council (CDC) invites schools to nominate to join the respected North West Youth Assembly (YA) program. You can find more details in the attached document here.
The North West YA is a youth voluntary group comprising youth leaders. Members are involved in various self-initiated programmes, and together with the North West CDC, help to implement community projects through a Service-Learning approach.
Criteria:
Candidates must be a Singaporean Citizen or Permanent Resident currently in Secondary TWO level.
Programme includes a compulsory camp from 17 to 19 June 2026.
PASSIONATE about community service
Able to commit at least 70% attendance at meetings and community service projects organised by North West CDC
Preferably residing in the North West District
*there will be monthly meeting (except months with exams) at the office of North West CDC (Woodlands Civic Centre)
Please note that you must be able to attend the full 3-days 2-night Young Leaders Camp (YLC) scheduled for 17 to 19 June 2026.

Every year, slips, trips, and falls (STF) remain the leading cause of injuries among both students and adults in schools. These incidents are often preventable, and raising awareness is the first step toward creating a safer school environment for everyone.
To address this, we are excited to launch a Student Safety Initiative in collaboration with the Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC). This initiative aims to empower students to recognize common hazards and take proactive steps to prevent accidents among their peers.

Why Law Matters – Invitation to join the SGLaw200 Student Competition
Dear SST Student,
Have you ever stopped to think about how laws shape our daily lives?
The Ministry of Law is organising the “Why Law Matters” Student Competition as part of SGLaw200, which commemorates 200 years of Singapore’s modern judicial and legal system.
This competition invites students to reflect on how the Rule of Law supports our society, protects individuals, and helps Singapore remain fair, safe, and harmonious.
For the Secondary category, the competition is open to Secondary students who are Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents, and entries are to be submitted individually.
What do you need to do?
Create an informational graphic or comic that shows how the Rule of Law improves our daily lives. You may choose to illustrate its impact in areas such as:
- economic development
- social harmony
- public safety
- national resilience
- trust in public institutions

[S3] CRADLE Project at Science Centre
Dear students,
We are pleased to announce the upcoming CRADLE Project at Science Centre.
What is RDP?
Research & Development Programme (RDP) is a 9-day mentorship programme held at Science Centre Singapore. Through this programme, students will work in groups of 2-3, under the guidance of Science Centre CRADLΣ mentors to complete a science or engineering project. The programme provides hands-on experience in experimentation, design, prototyping and data analysis. Throughout their project work, students gain exposure to various scientific tools and equipment while learning relevant science and engineering concepts essential for their projects.
Students may apply for up to two projects from the available list here. Project allocation will be determined by a review panel based on the student’s application. Students are therefore encouraged to answer the questionnaire the best they could to get selected.
RDP is endorsed by UNITAR
UNITAR: United Nations Institute for Training and Research
CIFAL: International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders
What is the role of CIFAL?
CIFAL Singapore was established in 2023 and is the first such centre in Singapore to be affiliated with the United Nations’ principal training arm and sited at NTU Singapore. The Centre aims to strengthen the ability of individuals, institutions, and societies in the Asia Pacific countries to perform functions, solve problems, and set and achieve objectives sustainably, thus encouraging sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region.
Thematic areas of focus are sustainability education and sustainable cities and communities, which cover topics, that include but are not limited to, climate change and climate impact, sustainable materials, recycling and upcycling, sustainability communication, sustainable finance, and Corporate and environmental sustainability.
Most of the RDP projects are UNSDG-related
UNSDG-related projects within the RDP are endorsed by UNITAR. Students participating in these endorsed projects will receive a UNITAR Certificate^ in recognition of their work in sustainability-related studies.
^Personal data of participants including full name, gender, nationality, email, etc will be collected and shared with UNITAR for the purposes of certification, understanding the background of the participants and keeping them informed of UNITAR’s learning activities/events.
^Participants who choose not to share their personal details with UNITAR will not be eligible to receive the UNITAR Certificate.
Is there a fee to the programme?
The RDP programme is valued at $1000 per student. However, all accepted students for the programme will receive subsidies from Science Centre Singapore and will only need to pay a fee of $200 per pax for the programme. The fee covers training and mentorship by Science Centre CRADLΣ mentors, and all project materials provided to the students. If selected, SST will cover the fee for students. You are expected to be present during this period of attachment.

Terms and Conditions:
*Attendance on all days of the programme, including presentation, is compulsory. Any student who withdraws after accepting their place will be charged the full programme fee of $1000 (before subsidy) as resources have been set aside for project mentoring. Fee waivers are available for absences due to:
· Medical leave
· Official examinations
· Official competitions
Supporting documents are required to be shared with the organizer.
