Parents Engagement Programme #9

Workshop: The Art & Science of Parenting in the Internet Age
Date: 16 August 2014 (Saturday)
Time: 9.00 am - 12.00 noon
Venue: SST Learning Oasis 2 (Block C, Level 3)

Synopsis
Many Singaporean teenagers use social media to interact with friends, share Internet content and search the web for learning. Beyond the obvious benefits, however, there are also many risks such as loss of privacy, distraction, cyber bullying and careless online expression. Video gaming also figures prominently as the top Internet activity among teenage boys. Video gaming commonly leads to poor academic grades, poor physical heath, anxiety, depression and family tension.
This workshop brings parents into the world of social media & video gaming. Drawing from latest research and youth trends, parents will learn to guide their teenagers and help them avoid addiction with video games and social media. Parents will learn to recognise signs of game addiction in their children, and discern their children’s motivation for gaming.
This workshop also focuses on helping parents adapt their parenting approaches for teenage years. With practical ideas and strategies, parents will understand how to use video games and social media to build a better relationship with their teenagers.
