You are encouraged to come in shades of red. Bermudas and shorts are not allowed. Please be reminded that you should also not mix your school bottoms (pants / culottes) with your red top. Bring along a story book for silent reading tomorrow before the celebrations.

Finally, please note that the school canteen will not be opened tomorrow. Celebrations are expected to end around 10am so please do have your breakfast before coming to school.

Grammarly - 'Apply Access Code'

Dear students,

Info Hub is continuing with our PREMIUM subscription to Grammarly this year.  For those unfamiliar with the Grammarly premium account, it is more than a tool to edit and vet pieces of writing and ensure proper citation when quoting articles. You will need to submit statistics documents with some of your PTs,  essays and reports this year so you need to use the premium subscription.

How to subscribe to GRAMMARLY or
Conversion from free account to the premium account

Step-by-Step Instructions
For instructions to either of the above, you will need to log into the Info Hub Blog. There is a step-by-step guide to show you how to do subscribe or convert your account to the premium version.

Potential subscription Issue
Some of you will be prompted to give an access code in order to use the premium account for Grammarly even after you have followed the steps in the Info Hub Blog. This should not be the situation.

We have already been in touch with the vendor regarding this issue and they say they require your email to reset each account. Hence, if you have faced this issue, please fill in this form so that we can send our vendor the collated accounts that need resetting by Friday morning, 27 January 2017. We will, however, collate another round of requests to reset their Grammarly accounts next week just in case things still do no work out.

Please make good use of GRAMMARLY for your assignments as it is a powerful tool to help you better your writing.

(S1-S4) Invitation to Participate: Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO)

Dear Students,

The Math Department would like to invite you to take part in the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) which will be held on April 5 2017. S1-S4 students are all eligible for this contest.

SASMO is one of the largest math contests in Asia with over 100 schools in Singapore participating. Besides, unlike most math olympiads that target the top 0.1% of students, SASMO aims to be accessible to the top 40% of the student population.

Click HERE if you would like to sign up for the contest. The deadline for signing up is 27 Jan 2017. You will need to pay a nominal sum of $20 for the contest fee but you can do so through Edusave. More information on payment will be provided in a later email for those who have registered.

To prepare you for this contest, the department will be conducting a series of problem solving workshops every Monday from 4pm - 5pm at the Math Room from T1W6 (6 Feb 2017). SASMO participants are strongly encouraged to attend them. (Note: this is not the Maths TDP)

Please email Mr Chen Jinquan at chen_jin_quan@sst.edu.sg if you have any enquiries on the above.

You are Invited: SST Puzzle Challenge

Starting T1W4, the Math Department will be running a weekly puzzle challenge to promote mathematical problem solving. These puzzles are not like your typical homework questions! The vast majority of these puzzles will only require basic mathematical knowledge that an average Secondary 1 student already has. However, they may require intricate problem solving and logical thinking skills. These puzzles will be shown on the LCD screens around the school.

All students from S1-S4 are eligible to take part and are welcome to submit full solutions - not just answers - to Mr Chen Jinquan at chen_jin_quan@sst.edu.sg. The best solution each week will receive a $10 Starbucks voucher.

From: Mr Chen Jinquan
On behalf of the Mathematics Department
