Math Challenge #11

2021 SST Math Challenge is back for one last challenge for the year!

This week, we are combining Art and Math.

Many of our students are familiar with Desmos to help us visualise graphs easily. However, Desmos can also be used to draw pictures that include straight lines and curves.

Have you ever thought of using Desmos to create art?

Here are some ideas:

Not sure how to get started?
Check out https://www.desmos.com/art for more ideas, and https://cambridgemathshub.org/using-desmos-to-draw-a-picture to help you get started.

When ready, submit your drawing HERE.

Project DonACEtion - an ACE and S306 collaboration

Dear SST Family,

We are ACE leaders Sung Yeji and Muhammad Osaid of S306 and S307 organising this year’s Clothes donACEtion drive together with class S3-06.

We have come together to organise our very first clothes donACEtion drive for the needy in sub-Saharan Africa.

1. Our Beneficiaries:

Our main beneficiaries are victims of poverty, natural disaster and catastrophe in sub-Saharan Africa. We will be collaborating with two charities to distribute clothes there, namely Change 1’s Life and Lagos Food Bank.

2. How you can help:

By donating clothes you do not need anymore as long as they fulfil the following criteria:

1. Shirts or pants are highly recommended,

2. No offensive symbols and words on the clothes,

3. No stains on the clothes,

4. In decent condition with no tears,

5. No undergarments and socks will be collected for hygiene purposes.

3. The donACEtion drive period:

The donACEtion drive would take place from 24 August to 1 September, where a box would be placed outside a taped area near the S306 classroom (located at block C level 5) from 7.30 am to 3:00 pm. We encourage all students to help wherever possible.

Clothes donated should be only from your own households. Do not solicit donations from your neighbours or beyond your homes.

4. Donating after the drive

If you would like to donate after the collection period and you have a substantial amount of clothes to donate, please contact the donACEtion team at sung_yeji@s2019.ssts.edu.sg and muhammad_osaid@s2019.ssts.edu.sg

Any queries, please contact us at sung_yeji@s2019.ssts.edu.sg and muhammad_osaid@s2019.ssts.edu.sg

Dear students,

The Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Council has collaborated with the MOE Workplace Safety & Health Section (WSHS), Safety, Security and Emergency Branch, on ‘Quiz on Safety Videos’ with the aim of raising students’ awareness on general safety. This year’s theme is “Situational Awareness,” to encourage students to practise “Look-Think-Do” in school, at home and in all their daily activities.

You may watch the 2 Safety Videos and answer a quiz during your free time.

100 participants from each of the top 25 schools with the highest number of submissions with the correct answers will stand to win a voucher for a pint of Swensen’s healthier choice ice-cream.  The 100 participants from the 25 schools will be shortlisted by WSH Council and the winners will be identified by the (i) Name of the school, (ii) Class and (iii) Index number.

We look forward to your participation.

·         Link to the Quiz (Videos are also embedded in the form) https://go.gov.sg/m56vqb

·         The Quiz Answers and Notes will be released following completion of this event on 13 Sep 2021, 11:59pm.

Handbrake Requirement for Bicycles

Dear Students

Over the past few years, we have seen an increase in the number of people using bicycles as a mode of transport or for leisure, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. This may include students who cycle to and from school, or during the weekends with friends and families.

Some students who cycle may be fixie enthusiasts. Fixies, also known as fixed-gear bicycles, generally do not have hand-operated brakes, but instead, rely on the rider’s pedal resistance to stop. This makes it challenging for riders to brake quickly, endangering themselves and other path and road users.
To improve safety, from 1 September 2021, LTA requires that all bicycles ridden on public paths and roads must have at least one functioning handbrake.  Please note so as to promote a safe and gracious riding culture in Singapore.

Thank you.

Coffee with a COP Session

Coffee with a COP is a platform for youths to have an informal sharing session (virtual) with Police Officers. This session is a closed-door, and kept at a maximum of 10 participants per session.

The aim of this session is to allow youths to express their query (of any police related topic) in a ‘relaxed environment’.
