Early Dismissal for Muslim Students on Eve of Hari Raya Puasa

Invitation to Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) 2021

You are invited to take part in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) 2021.

It will be held on Wednesday 4 August. 

The timing and venue of the competition will be announced nearer to the date.

All S1-S4 students are eligible to sign up.

There will be 6 compulsory online training lessons for students to complete before going to the competition (which can be taken any time before the competition).

• The competition fee is AUD6.50 (S$6.70) and will be collected through Edusave. 
• If you do not have sufficient Edusave funds, it will be collected through GIRO.

The deadline for signing up will be 1 June 2021 (Tuesday) 5.00 p.m.

[You are Invited] Youth Cyber Exploration Programme 2021

Greetings from the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA)! 

The next run of the Youth Cyber Exploration Programme (YCEP), a cybersecurity bootcamp curated for all secondary school students, is now open for registration! 

A key initiative under CSA’s SG Cyber Youth Programme (link), participants of YCEP can look forward to picking up fundamental skills in cybersecurity and learning about exciting topics such as securing networks and penetration testing.

The programme is fully funded by CSA.

2021 Young Technopreneur Challenge (For Sec 2 and 3 Students)

Dear Students 

Junior Achievement Singapore cordially invites students to their Online JA Young Technopreneur Challenge 2021. The Young Technopreneur Challenge, sponsored by HP Inc. and supported by South West Community Development Council (CDC), aims to support students to take ownership of the world they live in and actively develop solutions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Singapore Green Plan 2030 and Sustainable South West Masterplan.

We aim to interest, excite and provide students a unique platform to stretch their imagination and push their boundaries to learn to think global, innovate, create and pitch an idea or concept by making use of STEM and technology. We will also provide an opportunity for students to display their innovative ideas and passion through STEM workshops and to be guided by business mentors which will complement their learning journeys leading up to the competition presentation day.

The challenge consists of 3 bootcamps where students will develop their ideas, go through a rigorous design thinking process, research and prototype, as well as learn about the steps to becoming a technopreneur.

The challenge culminates in an expo event where students will showcase and present their ideas to a range of industry judges – winners possibly taking home funding to support the development of their idea.

Student participation criteria:

1. Secondary 2 & 3

2. Must have a laptop and internet connection. All bootcamps and the Innovation Expo & Presentation will be held online using Zoom.

3. Permission from parents is required to participate. 

Phases of the Competition:

1. Sustainability Plans – Select a problem related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals or

   Singapore Green Plan 2030 or Sustainable South West Masterplan.

2. Innovative Idea – In teams of 4 students, think of an idea to solve the problem. The solution will

   utilize STEM to make the world a better place.

3. Registration – Register your team of 4 students via https://www.ja.org.sg/the-young- technopreneur-challenge-2021.html. For your registration, you must indicate your choice of the problem related to the Sustainabiity Plans that your team has chosen to address. (You don’t need to identify the specific issue yet.)

4. Bootcamps – To enhance the learning experience for the Young Technopreneur Challenge, 3 bootcamps (design thinking, STEM applications, and pitching & presentation) will be required for all participants. Teams are assigned their mentors during the first bootcamp. The bootcamps will be conducted online.

5. Innovation Expo & Presentation – All the teams will showcase their innovative ideas at the Innovation Expo & Presentation. Top 10 teams will be selected to advance to the final round ofthe competition to be held in the afternoon.

2. Company Job Shadow: Top 3 teams will participate in a job shadow program for 1 to 5 days at HP Inc. Find out why they are one of the most innovative companies in the world and share your ideas with their team (post Covid-19).

3. Funding. SGD 3,000 is available for the winning team for reaching approved implementation goals and milestones following the challenge to further develop the idea.

Students Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Singapore Green Plan 2030, and Sustainable South West Masterplan

2. Be able to identify societal challenges in their environment

3. Work with mentors from HP and South West CDC Environment Functional Committee

4. Learn more about STEM and applying technology & STEM to their solutions

5. Develop an entrepreneurial mind-set and skills

6. Learn how to take an idea from concept to realization

7. Have fun and contribute to a better society

8. Develop and improve the following skills:

   • Presentation skills

   • Gain self confidence

   • Communication

   • Teamwork

   • Creative thinking 

Timeline: 

Students who are interested must first be able to commit to the demands of the challenge as stated above and get their parents' permission before they sign up. Also they must be be able to attend the I&E TDP sessions on Monday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. 

Once students have formed a team of 4, they are to email Mr Lam Hin Chew (lam_hin_chew@sst.edu.sg) for approval with the full names and classes of the team members latest by this Friday 30 April. 

As the challenge registration is on a first come first serve basis, the school cannot guarantee that all teams will be accepted.

[S1, S2, S3] Sec 4 English Oral Prelim Exam (19 to 26 April): Out-of-Bounds Venues

Dear Students

The Sec 4 English Oral Preliminary Examination will take place on

(i) 19 April (3.25 p.m. - 6.00 p.m.)

(ii) 21 April (2.25 p.m. - 6.00 p.m.)

(iii) 23 April (1.30 p.m. - 6.00 p.m.)

(iv) 26 April (12.00 p.m. - 1.45 p.m.)

The designated exam venue and waiting rooms will be Block A and B (Level 5), Infohub and Tutorial Rooms 1 to 3.

As such, your assistance is required to ensure a conducive environment for the Sec 4s to take their examination. Please refrain from making noise in the vicinity of Block B and C, especially Sec 3 classes in the afternoon as your noise might affect the performance of those taking the oral examination.

The following venues will be out of bounds 15 minutes before the start of the examination:

Advocacy@SST 2021

~~~~~~~~~ a message from the SSTACTvocates ~~~~~~~~~

Dear SST family,

I am Kylie Sim from S3-03, one of the ACE leaders in charge of the SSTACTvocates team.

This year, the SSTACTvocates team is starting a new initiative called Advocacy@SST, where SSTudents can submit their takes and opinions on issues they will like to advocate for, and have them featured on our Instagram page, @sstactvocates.

Through Advocacy@SST, we aim to encourage and inspire every SSTudent to contribute to the local and global community by advocating for a cause through social media. Furthermore, we hope to provide students with a platform that helps empower them to advocate for different issues for the betterment of society by ensuring that their voices are heard.

All you need to do is:

1. Submit a topic of your choice along with relevant information into the Google form.

2. The SSTACTvocates team will pick a submission and you will work with the SSTACTvocates team to design a post, create a poster, or even film a video.

3. Once your content has been approved, it will be posted on our Instagram page @sstactvocates immediately!

Some minor guidelines to take note of:

1. Before submission, ensure that the information submitted is accurate and has examples and evidence.

2. Ensure sensitivity is observed to the culture and context of the issue.

3. Credit the source of information or data.

4. Ensure that appropriate language is used and images used are not copyrighted.

You can submit the necessary information using the Google form found in the @sstactvocates account biography or by clicking here. You will be required to submit information about the cause you are choosing to advocate for, so you will have to include your resources, as well as the ways the audience can help!
