SST Debate Interest Group

Dear Students,

This announcement will provide you details on the SST Debate Interest Group.

The club aims to foster a culture of intellectual discourse and debate among students and promote an environment where students are able to express their views on societal issues from various viewpoints. Additionally, we aim to develop quick-thinking skills in students to articulate accurate responses on the spot.

Participation in the Debate Club complements academic learning by providing practical opportunities for students to refine the skills they learn in the classroom and apply them in a real-world context.

Short-term goals
  • Establish a dedicated core team of students passionate about debate
  • Compete in local debate competitions to gain experience and recognition
  • Hold weekly debate sessions and workshops to ensure continuous skill development
Long-term goals
  • Collaborate in the facilitation of Student Congress
  • Overtake the facilitation of SSTMUN
  • Collaborate with other schools for joint training sessions
  • Establish a mentorship programme for seniors and alumni to come back to provide guidance and support to junior debaters, ensuring the club’s sustainability and growth
  • Invite external vendors and speakers to facilitate sessions and provide insight on debates, further improving the debate skills of students

All members will need to read and agree to the Code of Conduct (found in the form)
