2025 Racial Harmony Day commemorations @SST - You are encouraged to be in traditional attire on 21 July

Dear Students,

Celebrating Racial Harmony Day in Singapore: 60 Years of Unity in Diversity

As we celebrate Singapore’s 60th birthday this year, Racial Harmony Day takes on even greater significance. It is a timely reminder of the values that have shaped our nation: mutual respect, understanding, and unity among people of all races and backgrounds.

Racial Harmony Day is not just a day of celebration, it is a call to reflect on the journey we’ve taken as a multicultural society. For over six decades, Singapore has worked hard to build a peaceful and inclusive home where everyone, regardless of race or religion, is treated with dignity and fairness. We honour the resilience and foresight of our founding generations, who laid the foundation for the racial harmony we enjoy today.

To commemorate this important occasion on 21 July, all students are encouraged to come dressed in traditional attire that reflects the rich cultural heritage of Singapore’s main racial communities: Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Eurasian. This symbolic act reminds us of the beauty and strength found in our diversity.

We also invite you to take a step further, consider swapping traditional costumes with friends or borrowing one from someone of a different race. These small yet meaningful gestures are opportunities to build deeper understanding and appreciation for each other’s cultures.

Let us approach this celebration with openness, respect, and curiosity. Please ensure that all attire:

  • Respects cultural traditions

  • Is of appropriate length

  • Avoids offensive or outlandish designs

  • Includes covered shoes for safety

Let’s use this Racial Harmony Day to show appreciation for one another’s cultures, learn something new, and continue building a more inclusive and united community.

Together, let’s make this a meaningful and memorable celebration!

*If you have any queries regarding attire on 21 Jul or the RHD programme, please check in with your Form Teacher.
