House Captain candidates 2018

Dear all,
We are seeking students to form teams of 3 to compete in the Young Technopreneur Challenge. Students who wish to participate must be able to attend the Bootcamp on 24 Feb, 10 Mar and 24 Mar (Sats). Please approach your CM (IE) teachers if you wish to be part of this competition. More information of competition is as below and attached.

The Young Technopreneur Challenge aims to support students to take ownership of the world they live in and actively develop solutions to the UN Global Goals. By providing expert advice and mentorship, combined with skills development and training, we hope to empower students to become problem solvers, innovators and entrepreneurs.  
Please see attached for details of this competition.  I am sure you will find this a worthwhile competition and will support and encourage your students to participate.   Timeline:

(S1-S4) Invitation to Participate: Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad

Dear Students,

You are invited to take part in the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) which will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. S1-S4 students are all eligible for this contest.

SASMO is one of the largest math contests in Asia with over 100 schools in Singapore participating. Besides, unlike most math olympiads that target the top 0.1% of students, SASMO aims to be accessible to the top 40% of the student population. 

Click here if you would like to sign up for the contest. The deadline for signing up is 1 Feb 2018. You will need to pay a nominal sum of $20 for the contest fee but you can do so through Edusave. More information on payment will be provided in a later email for those who have registered.

[S1 students] Literature comes Alive!

Dear S1 students

We are screening the movie of the book that you are currently studying in the Language Arts Programme. Through motion pictures, we hope that you can better appreciate the story that you are working on, especially when analysing the text.

As far as possible you will attend the session at the date designated for your class. However, if you are unable to make it on both Fridays, do turn up on the last session (Wednesday).

Please remember to bring along the learning materials given by your respective teachers when coming for the session.

Application for The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund 2018 (Sec 1 Students Only)

Dear Sec 1 Students,

We are pleased to inform you that applications for The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF) is open from now till 26 February 2018.   This application exercise is for Sec 1 students only.  

The STSPMF is a community project initiated by The Straits Times, to provide pocket money to school-going children from low-income families. The children can use this money for school-related expenses such as a recess meal or their bus fares. 

Eligibility Criteria

Students have to meet the following criteria:

a. Student is a Singapore Citizen (SC) or Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR); and

b. Family is living in a 4-room HDB flat or smaller; and

c. Family has a Gross per capita income (PCI) of $625/ month or less; and

d. Student is receiving full-time formal education at a mainstream primary/secondary school/Junior College/ Centralised Institute (including specialised independent school); and

e. Is not concurrently receiving school pocket money or other similar monthly school pocket money schemes. Students receiving the MOE Independent School Bursary may apply.  

f.  Is currently *NOT receiving STSPMF and has not been a STSPMF beneficiary for 24 months for the whole schooling years of primary and secondary school and 48 months for post-secondary school. [Note: *This does not refer to students who are currently receiving the fund through your school and wish to continue receiving the fund, subject to their eligibility].

Benefits
Students supported by the STSPMF will be able to receive $95 per month (secondary school students) for a maximum of 24 months.  

Application Procedures and Submission 
Students who meet the eligibility criteria may apply.  Application forms are available from the SST General Office. Completed application forms, together with the relevant supporting documents, must be submitted to the SST General Office by 26 February 2018.  Successful applicants will be notified through the school in May 2018.   

[Parents of S1 students] (DC) Parents Engagement Prog - An Experiential Session

Dear Parents of S1 students

You are invited to sign up for the upcoming Parents Engagement session organised by the Digital Citizenship (DC) Committee - an experiential session to find out what learning with technology is like in SST.

This is the session led by our Cyber Wellness Student Ambassadors.

First Week of School Programme
You may find the 1st week of school programme here.

Morning Assembly and Progress report book
Please bring along a book for your morning assembly silent reading. Please also bring along your progress report book. Your form teacher will be collecting from you during the form Teacher time.

Attire and Grooming
Gentle reminder for all students to be appropriately groomed when you report for school on 2 Jan 2018:

1. Male Students

• Hair must be short and neatly combed
• Clean-shaven (not allowed to keep facial hair such as beards, long side-burns or moustaches)
• Must tuck in their polo t-shirt and wear a belt if necessary. Belts (if worn) must be black in colour and must be plain without fancy patterns. Buckles must only have simple designs and must not be too large.

2. Female Students

• Hair that is shoulder length or longer must be tied up
• Simple hair accessories such as hand bands, hair clips may be worn
• Long fringe should be clipped up

3. Fingernails must be kept clean, short and unvarnished

4. Attire worn must be clean and neatly pressed with no holes, tears or frayed areas.

Application for NEU PC Plus Grant and iNSPIRE Fund Through School

Dear Students,

We are pleased to inform that SST has worked with IMDA to provide the NEU PC Plus Grant, which allows students from low-income households to own a brand new learning device (MacBook) at an affordable price. Under the programme, SST students fulfilling certain criteria will be able to own a Macbook at a subsidised rate. 

Eligibility Criteria

1. The application is open to Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents students.
2. Total monthly household income must not exceed $3,400 or per capita income must not exceed $900

iNSPIRE Fund

In addition, the iNSPIRE Fund scheme offers additional financial assistance to full-time students who are unable to afford the co-payment amount under the NEU PC Plus Programme.  

Eligibility Criteria

• Total household income must not exceed $2,500 or per capita income must not exceed $700.  

Successful applicants of the NEU PC Plus Programme who are eligible for the iNSPIRE Fund will need to render between 6 to 12 hours of community service within a period of 6 months.  The School will assist to arrange community service activities (conducted within School) in order for the successful applicant to fulfil the requirement.  

Students who meet the criteria, may obtain the application form by either downloading the form HERE or collect a hardcopy from the SST General Office.  Completed applications and supporting documents are to be submitted directly to SST General Office for processing and the school's approval. The application deadline is on 5 January 2018, Friday.

Sec 3 Outward Bound School 2018

Dear Sec 2 students (2107),

Greetings. Hope you are enjoying your holidays and resting well this far.

This is with regards to OBS 2018 which will be from 20 February 2018 (Tue) to 24 February 2018 (Sat). This is a cohort camp that is compulsory for all Sec 3 students, unless you are medically exempted from physical activities.

As the camp is in Term 1 next year, the schedule is very tight, it is very important that the compulsory medical screening by a certified doctor be done after 20 Nov 2017 (within 3 mths prior to the start date of the camp) and the fully completed registration form submitted latest by 8 Jan 2018. 

To avoid delays, it will be most ideal if the forms can be submitted by the last week of December or earlier, so that there will more time for me to check and get back to you in cases when the forms are incomplete. 

In particular, please ensure that the following are clearly filled up in the registration form:

a) Doctor's signature,

b) Clinic Stamp,

c) Doctor's indication for Fit or Unfit,

d) Date of Tetanus immunisation (This is indicated in the Health Booklet or found through the immunisation website https://www.nir.hpb.gov.sg/nirp/eservices/login), and 

e) Parent/Guardian's signature. 

Please read and fill up in capital letters the attached OBS Registration Form carefully and completely and email it to me as soon as possible. You may also submit the hard copy to the SST General Office. Please note that you will still need to submit the hard copy to me when school reopens in 2018.

There will be a briefing for all students in the first week of school in 2018. There will also be a briefing for parents/guardians at a later date.

A similar email has been sent to your parent/guardian. Please also see Letter to Parents/Guardians and Frequently Asked Questions and Sample Programme.

Travel Declaration for Nov/Dec 2017 (Sec 1 to 3 Students)

Dear Students, 

We understand that some of you may be travelling overseas during the school holidays in Nov/Dec 2017. Please complete the on-line Travel Declaration Form and also update the school of unplanned travels once school opens on the first day of school. You do not need to complete the form if you are travelling on a GCP trip organised by the school.
