Student Leaders' Investiture 2023

 


Dear students,

It's the time of the year where we formally recognise the students who will take on leadership roles in the school community! This week, during morning assembly we witness the investiture for the Class Excos. The remaining student leaders will be invested on Week 10 Monday, 6 Mar 2023. 

S3 and S4 will end lesson earlier for lunch and attend the investiture as audience. S1 and S2 are not required to attend the event and school will end at 1440hrs for S1 and S2.

Emcee Audition for 2023 Celebrations@SST

Dear students,

Do you wish to seize the opportunity to enliven the stage? Do you possess a charismatic stage presence? Do you enjoy hosting events?

If you have answered 'Yes' to the above questions, we would like to invite you to audition and become the next student emcees for Celebrations@SST 2023. The process is really simple:

1. Please record a video of yourself reading this emcee script. (max. file size: 100MB)
2. Make sure that your upper body is clearly shown in the video.
3. Label your recording as Class_Name (E.g. S3-10_JohnLee)
4. Submit the video via this Google Form.

It's that simple! Submit your entry by 8 Mar, Wednesday.

2023 MTL Fortnight (20-24 March)

Dear SST students,


This year marks the 13th year with MTL Fortnight in SST. A myriad of activities has been planned by the MTL dept with the following objectives in mind:
(1) To create an immersive environment for the learning and appreciation of MTL;
(2) To provide platforms for students to actively learn MTL and the associated culture; and
(3) To provide authentic opportunities for students to use MTL and experience the culture.

[Service-Learning opportunity] Relay for Life event with the SCS@SST project team.

Dear SST Family, 

SCS@ACE is a group of ACE student leaders who collaborate with Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) to advocate and encourage student volunteers to contribute to their effort.

Once again this year, the flagship SCS event, Relay For Life (RFL) is back! RFL aims to rally the local community to celebrate the lives of those who battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has taken so much. They also aim to raise funds for SCS’ programmes and to show support to the cancer community. 

The Physical event will be held at Singapore National Stadium from 4 March to 5 March, 6pm - 9am (OVERNIGHT) and the virtual event period is from 4 March to 12 March

Therefore, we are looking for student volunteers to help out at the relay or participate in the physical or even the virtual relay!

Hello from #SST-ACTvocates!

Dear SST family, 

I am Kenneth Koh from S4-01, ACE Leader Overall-In-Charge of #SST-ACTvocates. 


What is #SST-ACTvocates?

#SST-ACTvocates is the ACE Instagram page that serves as an advocacy platform for SSTudents. #SST-ACTvocates Instagram page is managed by ACE ACTvocates. Through #SST-ACTvocates, we aim to expose SSTudents to various local and global issues, and empower them to advocate for different issues for the betterment of the community, building a community of ACTvocates. 


Take part in Advocacy@SST now!

One of our signature programmes is the Advocacy@SST as shared during assembly earlier. Advocacy@SST serves as a platform that helps empower SSTudents to advocate for different community issues for the betterment of the community.


What’s more, students will earn service hours by participating in this programme. 


How to participate?

Participate in Advocacy@SST in 3 simple steps:

  1. Submit the topic of your choice into the Google Form in @sstactvocates Instagram biography.

  2. The #SST-ACTvocates team will reach out to you and work with you to create a post or even film a video. 

  3. Once your content has been finalised, it will be posted on our Instagram page @sstactvocates!

2023 INTER-SCHOOL ULTIMATE FRISBEE UNDER-17 COMPETITION

 Dear Students,

Jurong West Secondary School will be organising its 8th Inter-School Ultimate Frisbee Competition on 25 March 2023 (Saturday) from 8.00am to 1.00pm. 

Each school is allowed to send a maximum of 2 teams with a maximum of 10 registered players per team. Prizes will be awarded to the teams that finish in the Top 3 positions. There is no registration fee required for this Competition. Entries will be taken on a first-come-first-served basis.

Registration will end on 20 Feb, and a tryout will be conducted if there are more than 20 registrants.

[Sec 1] Python in Five by S4-01: A Service-Learning project seeking participants

Dear Secondary 1s of the SST Family,

As part of our Class Service Learning Project, our class, S4-01, is conducting a python workshop, Python in Five, in collaboration with the Buona Vista Youth Network. 


We will be conducting a dry run and we are seeking for 25 Secondary 1s to participate in our beginner-level python workshop. As a participant, you will learn the basics of Python programming over the 5 hour session while providing us feedback regarding the session.


The dry run would be held on 4th March (Saturday), 1pm to 6pm at the Buona Vista Community Club (36 Holland Dr, Singapore 270036). Refreshments will be provided for all participants.
