E-waste Collection Charity Drive

Dear staff and students,

Project Elixir, a youth-for-causes project is working with the Children's Cancer Foundation to raise funds for children afflicted with cancer.

As partners of CompAsia Singapore, we will be collecting old/used handphones/mini tablets regardless of brand, quality or functionality, which will be given to CompAsia. In return, they would donate the valued price of these electronics to the Children's Cancer Foundation.

This will benefit the CCF beneficiaries greatly, as well as play our part in conservation.

The details are as follows:
Collection dates: 31 July - 2nd Aug (Wed - Fri)
Venue: General Office Collection Box

Thank you and have a great week ahead.

On behalf of Chua Hao Ren (S3-07)

PS: To protect your privacy and data, please delete all data (eg. restore to factory settings) before donation.

Pen fundraiser (29 July - 7 Aug 2019)

Dear SST students

My name is Chua Xing Zi from S305. We are a group of ACE leaders who started the interactions@LengkokBahru with a group of under-privileged old folks. Most of these old folks live alone in a one-room rental flat and rely on public donations and social services to get by. They get together on every Saturday afternoon at the void deck of Block 52 Lengkok Bahru for lunch and interaction with some volunteers from "The Saturday Movement". We approached "The Saturday Movement" and requested to join them in their interaction sessions.

We are planning 2 Dazzling Saturdays with them. (Join us!)
1) 3 August 2019 - Jewellery making
2) 31 August 2019 - A visit to Jewel, Changi Airport

To carry out the programmes on these two Saturdays, we are doing a pen fundraiser from 29 July 2019 - 7 Aug 2019. The funds will be used to purchase materials and refreshments for the jewellery making session and the outing to Jewel. You may wish to pre-order the pen refills/ pens and pick up your purchases at the canteen during your recess time between 5 - 7 August 2019. Please bring your cash when you pick up the items.

We hope that you will be able to support us!
Thank you!

Yours sincerely

Dress and Pledge
This coming Youth Day (This Friday 5 July 2019), we invite all students to be involved in ‘Dress and Pledge’.

Dress
You are allowed to come to school either in school uniform or home clothes in house colours. If you are wearing home clothes, you are encouraged to be creative and include a recycled wearable art item in the form of a self-made accessory like a mask or a hat that represent your house values as part of your outfit. Alternatively, you may also come to school attired in your school uniform as per usual.

Attire Guidelines
  • Attire should still adhere to the fundamental philosophy of SST Student Code of Conduct and uphold the dignity of the SST student.
  • Hence, revealing clothes and clothes with objectionable text/prints should not be worn.
  • Students are required to wear covered shoes.
  • Please remember that the usual rules of decency and apply in the choice of your outfit.
  • Please note that for S&W lessons, you will have to change into appropriate S&W attire.
Pledge
While we have fun and laughter on Youth Day, we also remember those who are less fortunate.
Hence, it is also a day in which we pledge a portion of our pocket money for charity.
Do remember to bring along the money which you would like to contribute to the Youth Day appeal.
This year the amount collected for the Youth Day appeal will be donated to the Community Chest.
Your contribution will be collected during the morning assembly period.
2019 Inter-House Recycled Wearable Art Challenge
We will also run the 2019 Inter-House Recycled Wearable Art Challenge on the same day during the Assembly at 12 noon. We will like to challenge each house to create a piece of wearable art item that reflects the house values. Each house will be given up to 3 minutes to present a story in which the wearable art item is used as the main prop. The storyline should also reflect the values of the house and can be based on an original idea or adapted from a fairy tale, legend, myth or cultural tale.

Requirements:
  • The wearable art item can be part or whole outfit or an accessory to an outfit e.g. a shirt or a hat or bag to match an outfit.
  • The materials should be 100% recycled (with the exception of binding elements e.g. threads, sticky tape, staples, glue, cable ties).
  • If you use blue tack or strings, please limit yourself to pre-used blue tack or strings instead of buying new ones.
  • For clarity, using new coloured paper, post-it note pads, masking tape, cardboard/vanguard sheets, glitter, plastic sheets or anything else that is new is NOT recycling.
  • Colour markers, spray paint, acrylic paint, buttons, feathers, rings and other embellishments are all allowed but please do not buy new ones.

Judging Criteria
The presentation for each house will be judged based on the following criteria

1. Innovative use of recycled materials in the making of the wearable art piece
2. House values clearly weaved into the storyline narrated
3. Wearable art piece creatively included as the main focus in the storyline
4. The overall aesthetic quality of the wearable art piece

Extra Bonus!
We are also looking out for 3 to 5 best student outfits from the audience on that day.
If you have been spotted by our judges, you will have a chance to earn extra points for your house! :)

Be ready to support your houses with the loudest of cheers! :)
