2023 Singapore Cancer Society X ACE leadership collaboration - Service Learning opportunities

Dear SST Family,

We are the SCS@ACE Team, a group of ACE Leaders who collaborate with the Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) to advocate for their work and encourage student volunteers to contribute to their effort.

The 15th Race Against Cancer, RAC 2023, invites people of all walks of life to join in the fight and run alongside those who are impacted by cancer, because no one should fight cancer alone. RAC aims to raise funds for cancer treatment subsidies, welfare assistance, cancer rehabilitation, hospice care, cancer screenings, research, public education and cancer support group initiatives in Singapore.

Volunteer for Race Entry Pack Collection (REPC)

The RAC Race Entry Pack Collection (REPC) takes place on the 2nd and 3rd September, with Morning Shifts (9:30am-3pm), Afternoon Shifts (2:30pm-8pm), or Full Day Shifts (9:30am-8pm) at Westgate, Jurong East. You may volunteer on any of these days and shifts to help with the Race Entry Pack Collection.

Volunteer for RAC 2023 Event

RAC 2023 will take place on 17 September 2023. You can volunteer from 4am to 11am at Angsana Green, East Coast Park, with shuttle buses from different MRT stations at 4am, to help out with the 2023 Race Against Cancer.

Important Updates for T3W10 & T4W1 - if Polling Day will be held on 1 Sep 2023 FRIDAY

With the announcement of the upcoming Presidential Election where Polling Day will potentially be held on 1 Sept, Friday, adjustments are made to the school calendar to facilitate the use of the school compounds for the Presidential Election.

These changes will ONLY take effect once it has been confirmed that Polling Day will be held on 1 Sept, Friday.

[S1, S2, S3] Out of Bounds areas on 14 Aug, 16 Aug and 17 Aug 2023

Dear S1, S2 and S3 students,

• Please be informed that the Secondary 4 students will be taking their Preliminary Science Practical Examination on 14 Aug (Mon), 16 Aug (Wed) and 17 Aug (Thu).
• The exam venues are Biology Labs and Chemistry Labs in Block C, Level 1. As such, the area outside these labs are Out of Bounds to ALL students. Do not walk into this area.
• Other Out of Bounds areas in Block C are Level 2 (outside Phy Labs) and Level 3 (outside Lecture Theatre and Seminar Room).
• In addition, 2 sets of staircase are also Out of Bounds. Please use the staircase next to the walkway to MPH or the staircase next to the canteen. See the layout of Block C Level 1 below.

• If you come across areas cordoned off by red and white tape, do not enter those areas.

Extension of Concessionary Travel for Sec 4 Students

 Dear Sec 4 Students,

Please note that the concessionary travel for all Secondary 4 students who are taking the GCE "O" Level examinations in 2023 will expire on 31 Dec 2023. 

Please present your School Smart Card (SSC) at any Transit Link (TL) Ticket Office, Concession Card Replacement Office (CCRO), Passenger Service Centre (PSC), Add Value Machine (AVM) or the General Ticketing Machine (GTM) to extend the concession validity of your SSCs to continue enjoying concessionary travel till 31 Jan 2024.

All students can start to activate the extension with effect from 15 Aug 2023 and the last day for extension of concessionary travel is 17 Sep 2023.  Please call TL-Hotline at 1800-2255 663 for assistance if you encounter problem extending the concession validity. TL's Hotline Operating hours are from 8am - 6pm daily and they are closed on Public Holidays.

Students who are paying their fare charges through GIRO or Auto Credit Card are also required to extend the concession validity of their SSCs at any of the machines/offices mentioned at para 2 above.

Singhealth-SST Webinar Sign-Up

SST Secondary 3 students are invited to attend a Zoom webinar, titled "A day in the life of Healthcare Professionals". This webinar is jointly organised by SingHealth,  KK Women's and Children's Hospital, and School of Science and Technology, Singapore. Invited healthcare professionals from SingHealth and KK Women's and Children's Hospital will share their experiences on their work in the healthcare sector. 

 

The Zoom Webinar will be held on 6 September (Wednesday) from 12-1.30 pm and it is open to interested Secondary 3 students.

 

Participants will stand a chance to join an innovative bootcamp, where they will learn more about the ideation process behind healthcare innovations. More information will be provided at a later date.

 

The deadline for registration is on the 28 August 2023, 5.00 p.m. The Zoom log-in details and information will be sent shortly after the registration.

[S4] 2023 S4 Preliminary Examination - Science Practical

Dear students,

Please check to ensure that you have been assigned a shift, lab and seat for the different Science subjects. Should you have any queries, please approach your FT, HOD Science or HOY.

Sec 3 English Language EOY Oral Exam [11/8, 14/8, 16/8]

Dear SST Students, 

Please note that the S3 students (with the exception of S303 and S304) will be sitting for the Sec 3 EL EOY Oral Exam in Term 3 Week 7 and Week 8 on the following dates:

T3W7 Friday (11 August) - 1330 onwards

T3W8 Monday (14 August) - 1550 onwards

T3W8 Wednesday (16 August) - 1430 onwards

As such, your assistance is required to ensure a conducive environment for the Sec 3s to take their examination. Please refrain from making noise in the vicinity of Block B and C, especially in the afternoon as it may affect the performance of those taking the oral examination. 

We would also like to remind all S1-S3 classes to vacate their classrooms immediately after school so that they can be used as exam venues. You are reminded to take your belongings with you. No one will be allowed into the venues once the oral examination has begun.

National day is coming soon, and Media Club has organised yet another Photo and Video Competition this year! 

This competition will start on 31st July 2023 and deadline would be 15 September 2023 (The end of T4W1). The theme of the upcoming competition will be “Onward as One”, which is also the theme for NDP 2023. Please submit your photos or videos in his Google Form (https://forms.gle/GmdEp7UvnozEZt739).

The closing date is 15 September 2023, 2359. Late entries will not be accepted.
